As Many as 96 Participants Join the “Jago Bangunan” Training and Certification at Polines, Ready to Enhance Construction Competence

SEMARANG – Politeknik Negeri Semarang (Polines), in collaboration with PT Semen Gresik and the Construction Service Center Region (BJKW) IV Surabaya, organized the "Jago Bangunan" Training and Certification through a cooperative program for Level 1 Bricklaying and Plastering Workers. The event took place at the Multipurpose Building (GSG) of Politeknik Negeri Semarang on Friday, August 28, 2026.

This activity was attended by 96 participants who received theoretical training, practical sessions, and certification testing as an effort to enhance the competence and professionalism of construction workers.

The event began with an Opening Ceremony marked by the symbolic placing of safety helmets on participant representatives. The helmets were presented by the President Director of PT Semen Gresik, Gatot Mardiana; the Director of Politeknik Negeri Semarang, Dr. Garup Lambang Goro S.T., M.T.; and the Head of BJKW Region IV Surabaya, Indra Sulistyo.

In his remarks, Gatot Mardiana emphasized the importance of improving the competence of construction workers through training and certification.

"This training is a crucial part of enhancing the competence of construction workers. We hope all participants will engage in the activity earnestly, both during theory sessions and practical exercises. Through certification, the participants' competence will be officially recognized, serving as a valuable asset to improve work quality and competitiveness in the construction industry," he stated.

According to him, increasingly skilled workforce competencies will further support the realization of construction work that is high-quality, safe, and compliant with established standards.

Furthermore, the Director of Polines stated that this training and certification program aligns with the spirit of vocational education, which prioritizes skills and competencies that can be applied directly.

"Politeknik Negeri Semarang warmly welcomes this training and certification activity. Vocational education is not only about classroom learning, but also about how these skills can be genuinely applied in the field. We hope the participants gain useful knowledge and skills while being able to implement proper and correct work standards," he expressed.

He also added that collaboration between educational institutions, the business sector, and the government serves as a strategic step in strengthening the vocational education ecosystem while improving the quality of human resources.

Meanwhile, the Head of BJKW Region IV Surabaya, Indra Sulistyo, conveyed that certification is a vital component in providing official recognition of construction workers' competencies.

"This certification is essential to ensure that construction workers possess competencies that meet the required standards. We hope participants will successfully complete the entire series of activities, ranging from theoretical learning and practical sessions to the certification exam. With improved competence, the quality of construction work will also correspondingly increase," he stated.

Following the opening ceremony, participants partook in a series of training sessions. The first session, focusing on Building/Sturdy House Theory (Bricklaying Work), was delivered by Amin Zainullah. This session provided participants with an understanding of the fundamental principles and techniques of bricklaying to produce sturdy and high-quality structures.

The second session, focusing on Building/Sturdy House Theory (Plastering Work), was delivered by Ir. Teguh Mulyo Wicaksono, S.Pd., M.Eng., Head of the Concrete and Masonry Workshop at the Civil Engineering Department of Polines. Participants received comprehensive guidance on proper plastering techniques in accordance with construction standards.

Meanwhile, the third session on Basic Calculations for Becoming a Contractor was once again delivered by Amin Zainullah. This session equipped participants with the foundational calculation skills required in the execution and management of construction work.

Moving beyond theoretical learning, participants also engaged in practical bricklaying exercises as preparation for the certification test. During this session, participants directly practiced bricklaying techniques according to the regulations and work standards they had learned.

The sequence of activities then proceeded with the Skilled Bricklayer Certification Test, serving as the evaluation stage to measure participant competence based on established standards.

Through this Level 1 Bricklayer and Plasterer Training Program, Polines, KWSG, and BJKW Region IV Surabaya demonstrated their shared commitment to improving the quality and competence of the construction workforce.

By participating in this training and certification, the 96 participants are expected not only to possess enhanced technical skills but also to be capable of professionally applying safety and work quality standards in the field.
