SEMARANG – Semarang State Polytechnic (Polines) continues to strengthen its role as a vocational college oriented towards innovation and industrial needs by holding a Workshop on Downstreaming and Commercialization of Innovation Products at the Polines Campus Directorate Building, Monday (3/8/2026). The workshop raised the theme "Synergy of Research, Innovation and Industry in Supporting the Downstreaming of Polines Innovation Products" as an effort to accelerate the transformation of research results into products that are ready to be used by society and the business world.
The activity was officially opened by the Director of Semarang State Polytechnic, Dr. Garup Lambang Goro, S.T., M.T., accompanied by the Deputy Director for Cooperation, Public Relations and Information Systems, Dr. Ir. Kurnianingsih, S.T., M.T. Also present were lecturers and academics who have been active in developing various innovations in the Polines environment.
In his speech, Director Polines emphasized that the success of research is not only measured by academic outcomes, but also by the extent to which the innovation can be implemented, developed together with industry, and provide real benefits to society.
"Vocational universities must be able to become a bridge between the academic world and the industrial world. Downstreaming is an important process so that research results can develop into products that have economic value, opening up business opportunities, as well as increasing the nation's competitiveness," he said.
To enrich participants' insight, the workshop presented two speakers from academics and industry practitioners.
The first resource person, Agung Wahyono, S.Pi., M.Si., Ph.D., Deputy Director for Planning, Cooperation and Information Systems, Jember State Polytechnic, delivered material regarding the BLU Management Strategy as a Driver of Downstreaming and Commercialization of Vocational Higher Education Innovation. He explained how the flexibility of management of the Public Service Agency (BLU) could be utilized to accelerate the development of innovative products, build strategic partnerships, and increase the added value of research results from vocational universities.
Meanwhile, Ayuning F. Desanti, Chief Executive Officer of PT Solusi Produk Indonesia, presented material regarding commercialization strategies for innovative products. He emphasized that the success of innovation is not only determined by technological superiority, but also the readiness of the business model, mapping market needs, protecting intellectual property, and the ability to build networks with industrial partners.
The discussion took place interactively with various questions from participants regarding the challenges of product downstreaming, strategies for collaborating with industry, and the steps that need to be taken so that research innovations can be produced sustainably and have competitiveness in the market.
Through this workshop, Polines hopes to create an increasingly strong innovation ecosystem involving elements of academia, government, industry and the business world. It is hoped that this synergy will accelerate the birth of innovative products that are not only technologically superior, but are also ready to be commercialized and contribute to national economic growth. ang
