SEMARANG – The Academic Support Unit (UPA) of the Semarang State Polytechnic Library (Polines) continues to be committed to improving the quality of digital services through organizing Library Information Systems Training and Electronic Theses and Dissertations (ETD). This activity took place on Wednesday (29/7/2026) at the Polines Campus Directorate Building and was attended by librarians and educational staff in the Polines environment.
The training was officially opened by the Deputy Director for Academic Affairs at Polines, Prof. Dr. Ir. Dwiana Hendrawati, S.T., M.T., accompanied by the Head of the Polines Library UPA, Muhammad Syam Suryanto, S.Sos., and the Head of the Academic Subdivision, Nugroho Joko Usito, S.Kom., M.Kom.
In his speech, the Deputy Director for Academic Affairs said that the transformation of library services is an important part of supporting modern academic governance. According to him, libraries no longer only function as book collection centers, but also as digital knowledge management centers that are able to provide quick, easy and broad access to information for the academic community.
"The development of information technology requires libraries to continue to innovate. Through this training, it is hoped that the competence of library managers will increase so that they are able to provide digital services that are quality, effective and in accordance with the needs of students and other users," he concluded.
As a resource person, there was Waris Agung Widodo, S.I.Pust., Librarian at the Semarang Ministry of Health Polytechnic and Developer of SLiMS (Senayan Library Management System). On this occasion, Waris shared material regarding managing library information systems, developing institutional repositories, and implementing Electronic Theses and Dissertations (ETD) as part of the library's digital transformation.
He explained that institutional repositories are a strategic medium for maintaining the preservation of scientific works while increasing the visibility of higher education research results through wider digital access. Apart from that, implementing ETD also supports efficient management of student final assignments, validation of metadata, and strengthens the academic information openness ecosystem.
Furthermore, Waris emphasized that the success of repository transformation does not only depend on technology, but also the synergy between institutional policies, infrastructure, human resource competencies, and a culture of knowledge sharing within the university environment.
Through this training, Polines hopes that digital library management will become more optimal and be able to provide fast, integrated information services and support improving the quality of higher education's tridharma.
